About me

Hi! My name is Edina, I live in the UK, in East London to be precise! I am a children's author and health journalist. I recently decided to homeschool my four year old because he simply was not happy in school. This might change in the future, but for now I am educating him at home. Personally I think four years old is too young to start school (reception over here) The legal compulsory school age is actually five, but because my son was born mid August he actually started as one of the youngest in the class at four and one month.

He went to school from September 2013 to December 2013, and it was a struggle to take him to school every day. He would wake up exhausted and just so down and upset all the time. He also lost weight, he was already very slim. This concerned me, and I did a lot of digging to find out that he was getting taunted at school. I had a word with the teacher but to be honest I decided it was not worth all the headache. I did not send him back in 2014 after the Christmas break.

The school my son went to was a very expensive Montessori school, which to be honest I do not think it was worth the money. I love the Montessori method though, although there are a few aspects of it I do not like. I generally think the idea of moving from concrete to abstract is an excellent one. I wish I was taught this way. I have taken some aspects of the Montessori way and switched up to form my own way of teaching which is working great. Initially the teacher said that my son was finding it hard to follow instructions. However, I have not found this at all, he is racing through all the work that I have set for him and we are having a ball.

I never thought I could enjoy home educating to be honest because I was really looking forward to having some level of freedom when he went to school. However, when he did go to school I actually felt trapped! I had to work everything around the school day. I had to wait until the school holidays before I could book a trip away, I had to wait until the weekend before I could take my son on a day trip. Now I take him out whenever I feel the  need to. Sometimes, he just asks to go to the park and I take him, so far we have been on two really great field trips. We are planning many more including a holiday abroad in the next couple of months. He is so happy and he loves spending more time with Mummy and Daddy. He is really developing a love for learning and I am learning so much too! I never though I could learn so much teaching at this level.
I actually think I could have been a school teacher to be honest!

I am so excited to see where this amazing journey takes us and I look forward to many more days spent with my amazing, intelligent, witty, creative little boy!

Peace and Love
